August happenings…

It’s the middle of winter here in Mendoza and we’re keeping warm and busy!

We currently have two Mercy DTS teams on outreach.  During these two months of outreach the teams will be blessing various cities across Argentina, as well as neighboring  Uruguay.  We look forward to hearing their reports and testimonies when they return in September.

The Sports focused DTS is well underway.  There are 13 students representing six nations.  This week the group is in the mountains taking part in the Extreme Winter camp put on by the sports ministry here at YWAM Mendoza.  In addition to the Sports DTS students there are participants from local churches.

We had the privilege of receiving a visit from Alejandro Rodriguez, director of YWAM Argentina, this past week.  As he is a busy man, we took advantage of his few short days with us to spend time with him as a base.  He always has an inspiring word to share.  Just before his return to Buenos Aires, we brought together pastors from various churches in Mendoza to our new ministerial offices in the city center.   Alejandro spoke at the meeting, challenging and encouraging the church to get involved and make an impact on each area of society, especially government.

This weekend, the second weekend of August, is Children’s Day in Argentina.  The mercy ministry will be traveling to the Desert of Lavalle to celebrate this special day with the children in the indigenous Huarpe community.  They will be dressing up as clowns, playing games and handing out candy to the kids in four different zones where YWAM has been working over the last several years.

This week we received a team from the Ituzaingo YWAM base in Buenos Aires.  The team is an outreach from the Principles of Children and Youth Ministry School.  They will be giving training seminars in the city center and on our YWAM base for people with a burden for working with children and youth.  As well, the team will be in charge of a camp for children in Mendoza before heading to Chiloe, Chile to continue the outreach.

August is full of activity!  Later in the month the newly formed communications ministry will receive training in video production.  At the end of the month El Projimo, our HIV/AIDS ministry, goes to Salta, northwest Argentina, to attend the National HIV/AIDS Conference.  The Arts ministry will also accompany El Projimo with plans to give artistic presentations near the conference venue.

More to come soon!
